Founding Members 

     The Athens Chapter #54 was chartered on May 20, 1994.  The founding members were Robert W Coker, John B Frizzel, Jr., Arthur H Hall, Judge Jack Holland, Col. E Graham Martin, Jr., Robert Risko, Jr., James G Robertson, Rev Erwin E Shaffer, and Wayne Stafford.  

     From this original group, three have served as Texas SSAR Presidents, a very high honor for a chapter of our size. The president elect for the year of 2008 is also from this chapter, Harry Fife.  This would make four state presidents since 1994, from this chapter. 

Charter Members  

    Charter members were Raymond H Stanford, V  Lance Tarrance, and Delbert "Tex" Whitaker, who were approved as members shortly after the Athens #54 was organized. 

     The Athens chapter has long been active in the Texas Society, having received Outstanding Chapter twice (in its member category) and Honorable Mention twice.  The Athens Chapter has long been active in Youth Competition and Public Service recognition, having been honored with the Americanism Award twice in the last three years. 

      This type of attitude from our membership, has make this a successful chapter.
